Convention 2008
January 1, 2008
To: Chapter Officers
Dear Fratres: I hope that the New Year is off to a good start for you and your chapter. The fall was a positive one for the Fraternity as it kicked off the Centennial Celebration last August at the Phoenix Convention. Currently, the Centennial Capital Campaign is well on its way to reaching its 5 million dollar goal, having raised over 3 million dollars! During August 8-10, 2008 fratres from all across North America will gather in Chicago, IL for the annual Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity Convention. This three-day program will include educational programming, meetings with Fraternity officers, social activities, and the Fraternity’s annual business meeting. The Convention will also allow fratres from all chapters and of all ages to renew the spirit of Sigma Alpha Mu. Convention HQ will be The Westin-Chicago North Shore. The 2008 Convention will continue Sigma Alpha Mu’s 100th Anniversary celebrations that are being held in cities across North America, in addition to the 90th Anniversary of the Rho Chapter at Illinois. By joining us in Chicago, members of your chapter can participate in a once in a lifetime event. Attendance at Convention is required of all chapters (Blue Book Division D., Article II., 3). The Octagon provides a rebate to one delegate from each chapter (75% on Convention registration fee ($275) and 75% on airfare). The Convention is one of the focal points of ΣΑΜ’s educational and social efforts; a tremendous amount of resources are dedicated to making it a successful event. Last year over 200 fratres attended and reported an enjoyable time that enhanced their fraternal experience. Each chapter and colony needs to begin making plans for at least a two-man delegation to attend. Groups not sending a two-man delegation to Convention will be fined $1500. Please take a minute to complete the online registration form. The Octagon and Leadership Committee are hard at work to make the Convention a great experience; I look forward to seeing you in August. Fraternally yours,
Lawrence J. Leib
