Living Past Supreme Priors

Lee Manders

I think there are two fundamentally different responsibilities that I fulfilled as Supreme Prior between 2001 and 2004. From a managerial standpoint, I led the fraternity through the process of implementing a revised strategic plan that had been updated in 2001. In it, the Octagon identified five strategic initiatives. During my three-year tenure, we were able to make substantial progress on all five initiatives. Also, we were able to enter into a five-year employment agreement with Executive Director Aaron Girson, which continued the stability our professional staff and the day-to-day management of the Fraternity.

From a leadership standpoint, I am proud of some of the major decisions we made. Our ongoing challenge was to develop new consuls and future leaders for the Fraternity. Longer-term, the biggest accomplishment was the appointment of Howard Miller and David Phillips as co-chairmen the Fraternity’s Centennial celebration. This six-year appointment was an important decision for me to initiate. In order for the various related goals we had (alumni involvement, fund raising, undergraduate service projects, etc.) to be successful, the Fraternity needed high-energy achievers who were dedicated to making the Centennial celebration another proud moment in the history of our organization.
